Subdivision Development Appeals
Section 627 to 630 of the Municipal Government Act, RSA 2000, Chapter M-26 provides the authority for a municipal council to establish by bylaw a subdivision development appeal board or authorize the municipality to enter into an agreement with one or more municipalities to establish an intermunicipal subdivision and development appeal board. The Town of Bentley passed Bylaw 261/2026 – Subdivision Development Appeal Board Bylaw to authorize Red Deer County to provide SDAB services to the Town of Bentley. This ensure that there is a qualified appeal board with proper training and a dedicated clear to hear and process appeals for development decisions. Given that the Town of Bentley received minimal repeals it is more cost effective to work intermunicipal to provide these services.

Red Deer County’s Process Ensure the appeal is sent to the Town of Bentley
To file an appeal with the Subdivision Development Appeal Board, you must provide:
- A completed notice of appeal form signed by the applicant (you may also attach a letter to the form explaining your appeal)
- A copy of the decision , Order or Notice that you are appealing
- The appeal fee of $250. This can be paid in person at the Town of Bentley Office
Submit this information to the Town of Bentley by the appeal deadline specified in the item you are appealing.
The Notice of Appeal form and any attached documents will be provided to the opposing Party(ies) to allow the parties to exchange information with each other. In certain types of appeals, the information will also be provided to area landowners and / or interested persons. Appeal hearing is open to the public and public may attend your hearing.
